Freshwater Angelfish types part I

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Actually angelfish has three variety or types only but today we can see some various or type angelfish in shop or aquarium people. Before 1950, the fish lover just recognized wild type silver angelfish. After 1950,
This fish is cichlid family but the shape is different with common cichlids like Oscar. They have body like common kite. That is why people in my country call it kite fish. They have round body like common cichlid but they have long triangular fins like arrow head. The Body also slim with small lips unlike Oscar cichlids.
A genetic, Dr Joanne Norton, is success to name angelfish genetics code. Every color or types of angelfish has different name. The name of Angelfish phenotypes
D for Dark
G for gold
S for blushing
M for Marble
V for Veil tail
Z for Zebra
h for halfback
+ for wild type or silver
The Caps alphabet means the dominant genome and the common alphabet is the recessive.

There are some various Angelfish mutant such:
Dark (D/D)
Incomplete dominant black angelfish it might because the dark genome is no dominant to other genome. Meanwhile, double dark angelfish has dominant black color.

Marble (M/M, M/g, M/Gm)
This type is difficult to grow and inefficient. Marble has similar pattern similar with marble color and has various color like gold marble, white marble, gold, orange and crown. Most of this type has red .
Gold (g/g)
The type has gold or orange color. There is no black and strip. This type is recessive so you will not get gold color if you breed with other type angelfish.
Gold Marble (Gm/Gm, Gm/g)
This is the most famous of Angelfish in market. They have white and black mix coloration with crown or orange body.
Black Lace (D,+)
This type similar with black or dark but the black lace is not dark as those fishes.
Hybrid black (D/g, D/M, D/Gm)
The color is black but it looks subtle. The hybrid has no red eye like common black angelfish.
Black Lace (D/+)
Black Lace is the hybrid of silver or wild type with Black. Since both genomes does not influence the fish color similar with
Silver Marble (M/+)
This fish has silver and marble genome.
Silver Gold Marble (Gm/+)
The fish bring silver, gold and marble genome.
Zebra Locus
It contain two mutation gen i.e. Zebra and stripless
Ghost (S/+)
